Marine Iguana
Marine Iguanas are found only on the Galapagos islands and are endemic to all islands in the archipelago. Different islands have some variations, but essentially they are all from the same species. It is believed that these animals evolved and adapted from land Iguanas that were originally from South American coast that drifted out to the Galapagos islands. They have evolved special glands near their noses to clean the salt from their blood stream. The salt is ingested while foraging underwater on the algae on which they exclusively feed. Although fierce, and dare I say, ugly looking, these are actually gentle herbivores and eat mostly the algae from the ocean.
